How six Nevada players were named all-HOIC in baseball: Gavin Melohn lands on the first team

The Nevada baseball team had six players receive all-Heart of Iowa Conference recognition during the 2022 season.

Senior outfielder Gavin Melohn, senior pitcher and infielder Cael Franzen, junior pitcher and infielder Karter Beving, senior designated hitter William Carsrud, senior outfielder Christian Hawbaker and senior infielder Connor Schnettgoecke were the Cub players chosen.

Melohn was chosen to the all-HOIC first team after being named to the second team a year ago.

Melohn hit .427 with six doubles, a school-record seven triples, one home run, 30 runs, 24 steals and 18 RBIs during the season. He only had two errors in 56 chances in the outfield.

The other all-HOIC first-team picks were: Roland-Story's Alex Berends, Brett Schmitz, Dillon Lettow and Thomas Matthes; West Marshall's Owen Siegert, Kinnick Christensen and Clay Cuva; Greene County's Brayden Roberts and Bryce Stalder; Saydel's Jayden Cordova and Mason Hicks, Prairie City-Monroe's Gavin Fenton and South Hamilton's Tanner Blue.

Franzen, Beving and Carsrud made the second team. The other second-team picks were: Perry's Carter Iben, Saydel's Judd Roberts and Jace Embry, Roland-Story's Matthew Phelan and Carter Loof, West Marshall's Parker Reese and Tony McKinney, Greene County's Justin Stream and Joe Carey.

Cael Franzen posted a 2.53 ERA in 55 1/3 innings and hit .295 with 26 runs and 24 steals during his senior season for the Nevada baseball team. He was named to the all-HOIC second team.

Franzen was 4-5 with a 2.53 ERA in 55 1/3 innings and he hit .295 with 26 runs and 24 steals. Beving went 5-2 with a 3.47 ERA in 42 1/3 innings and hit .367 with three doubles, one homer, 18 runs and 24 RBIs and Carsrud posted a .338 average with five doubles, 10 runs and RBIs.

Schnettgoecke and Hawbaker made all-HOIC honorable mention.

Schnettgoecke hit .261 with five doubles, 10 runs and 22 RBIs. Hawbaker tallied a .293 average with six doubles and 20 runs.
