A 6-year-old boy was thrown from the 10th floor of London's Tate Modern

A teenager was arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly throwing a 6-year-old boy from the 10th floor of London's Tate Modern gallery on Sunday.

London's Metropolitan Police said the boy landed on the fifth-floor rooftop of the Tate. He is in stable but critical condition, according to the BBC.

“A 17-year-old male had remained with members of the public on the 10th-floor viewing platform,” a police statement said. “There is nothing to suggest that he is known to the victim.”

The boy was thrown from the open-air rooftop viewing platform, where visitors can get a panoramic view of London.

A witness told Britain's Press Association that she saw a woman screaming, "Where's my son?" repeatedly after museum visitors surrounded the suspect.

After the incident, the museum closed for the day.

The Tate Modern was the U.K.’s most popular tourist destination in 2018, attracting 5.9 million visitors, according to the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions.
