Six-year-old Bradenton girl seriously injured, others hurt in University Parkway crash

A six-year-old Bradenton girl was seriously injured and four other people were hurt in a crash on University Parkway in north Sarasota County on Sunday morning, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The wreck happened at 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of University Parkway and Legacy Boulevard, FHP said.

A 32-year-old Bradenton man driving an SUV west on University Parkway turned left and entered directly into the path of an SUV traveling eastbound. Traffic investigators said the Bradenton man failed to yield the right of way before making the turn.

The front of the oncoming SUV hit the side of the turning SUV.

A six-year-old Bradenton girl in a passenger’s seat of the turning SUV was seriously injured in the crash. She was taken to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, FHP said. Two other passengers, a 33-year-old Bradenton woman and a 54-year-old Bradenton woman, had minor injuries after the crash.

The occupants of the other SUV, a 42-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman from Skokie, Illinois, also had minor injuries after the crash, troopers said.

Everyone involved in the wreck was wearing a seatbelt, FHP said.

The crash partially blocked traffic on University Parkway for several hours. It remained under investigation on Sunday afternoon.
