Six Penn State athletes participating in THON

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WHTM) – The largest student-run philanthropy event in the world, THON, will take place this weekend at the Bryce Jordan Center at Penn State with six student-athletes participating.

The 51st IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON) will feature 700+ dancers who will actively dance from Friday at 6 p.m. to Sunday at 4 p.m. to raise awareness for pediatric cancer. The participants will not sit down or sleep during the event.

Since 1977, THON has raised more than $204 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital. $15 million was raised in 2023. Over $40,000 has been raised by Penn State’s Students Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB).

The six athletes dancing are:

  • Quinn Menger (women’s volleyball, senior, Powhatan, Va.)

  • Brie Barraaco (field hockey, redshirt junior, Philadelphia, Pa.)

  • Van Danielson (men’s soccer, junior, Columbia, Md.)

  • Caroline Myers (field hockey, junior, Hartland, Mass.)

  • Molly Martin (women’s soccer, redshirt freshman, Acton, Mass.)

  • Lauren Delgado (field hockey, graduate student, East Earl, Pa.)

Two club sports athletes will also be participating:

  • Miranda Heffelfinger (women’s rugby club team)

  • Nick Masterson (men’s rugby club team)

There will also be teams dancing at the Pep Rally and other student-athletes will participate in the Athlete Hour.
