Six people confirmed dead after plane crashes near golf course in California

Six people have been confirmed dead after a twin-engine jet crashed near a golf course in California and then burst into flames earlier this week.

All four passengers and two crew members aboard the Bombardier CL 600 were killed when it went down Monday in a heavily wooded area along Northern California’s shared border with Nevada. Authorities said it struck several trees amid its downward descent and narrowly missed a residential area.

The small aircraft burst into flames, not far from the Ponderosa Golf Course, but the blaze was quickly contained and put out.Authorities initially said three people died in the crash

The doomed flight departed an Idaho airport earlier the same day for Los Angeles. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the aircraft plunged toward the ground not much later, about several blocks from a runway as the pilot was trying to land at Truckee-Tahoe Airport, officials said.

The identities of the victims weren’t released pending DNA identification. Nobody on the ground was injured.

”Due to the crash scene itself and the resulting fire, we have to use DNA to try to confirm who the individuals were,” Andrew Trygg, public information officer with the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, told the Sierra Sun.

The cause of the crash remained unknown Thursday and the National Transportation Safety Board said that two of its investigators were on scene probing the incident.
