Six from Portland Boxing Club reach finals at New England Golden Gloves

Mar. 4—Six members of the Portland Boxing Club have advanced to the finals of the New England Golden Gloves 76th Tournament of Champions, scheduled for Thursday at Lowell Memorial Auditorium in Lowell, Massachusetts.

In the 125-pound novice featherweight division, Xavier Tiger Diaz of Brunswick won his semifinal bout with a unanimous decision over Pedro Luna Sanchez of New Haven, Connecticut

Kate Zehr of South Portland won her semifinal match in the 125-pound elite featherweight division with a unanimous decision over Brandy Young of Boston

Wade Faria, a 165-pound elite middleweight from Portland, won a 4-1 split decision over Douglas Marroquin of Stamford, Connecticut to advance.

Zordan Holman of Westbrook, a 203-plus pound novice super heavyweight advanced with a unanimous decision over Robinson Perez of Southbridge, Massachusetts

Advancing to the finals by walkover were Ilyas Bashir (139-pound elite light welterweight) from Auburn and Lindsay Kyajohnian Francois (132-pound elite light welterweight) of Gorham.

In an earlier championship final bout in the 139-pound novice youth division, Max Kennedy of South Portland won a split decision over James Harvey of Chelmsford, Massachusetts to win the championship title to give Portland Boxing Club fighters 232 championships in the organization's 30-year history.
