Six teens rescued after becoming lost in Auburn diversion tunnel

Six teens were rescued after they became lost in a water diversion tunnel Sunday afternoon.

The group called 911 shortly after 4:00 p.m., informing responders they had become lost inside the tunnel between Curtis Street and Southold Road. The fire department says the children were cold, wet and unable to find their way back to the entrance.

The Communications Center was able to ping the cell phone of one of the kids to pinpoint their location. Rescuers were able to find their way to the teens and helped them back to the sloped edge and eventually to solid ground.

Although the kids were wet, cold and had some minor scratches, none needed to be hospitalized and are spending the night back at home with their parents.
