SixersWire: George Hill has mallet on thumb in uncommon area
A little more information has come out about the injury to Philadelphia 76ers George Hill that he suffered in January when he was with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Thunder didn’t provide much information about the injury, and he did not play for them again after surgery. When Hill was traded to the 76ers on March 25, it was assumed he would return to the court soon, though that was never reported.
But Hill has yet to suit up for Philadelphia, and he will remain on the bench when the Sixers travel to OKC to play the Thunder on Saturday.
The guard said the injury is worse than a typical thumb problem because the mallet is in an uncommon area, according to SixersWire.
“I got the cast off a week and a half ago. Just doing the rehab with our PT staff and things like that,” Hill said. “The rare thing is it’s a mallet on the thumb rather than normally a finger, so it’s an uncommon area that you normally get the mallet on.”
Sixers head coach Doc Rivers has experience with this. He told the SixersWire that he suffered the same injury during his playing days, and the pain of the thumb getting hit during action was “excruciating.”
There is not a timeline for Hill’s return, but he said he’ll be back in time for the playoffs.
“I will be back this season for sure. I will be back before playoffs for sure,” he said.
