Skateboarder hit and killed in early morning crash in Orange County, troopers say

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian riding an electric skateboard.

The crash happened near the intersection of McCulloch Road and Shadow Creek Circle around 6 a.m. on Saturday.

Troopers said a pedestrian was traveling eastbound on a one-wheel electric skateboard on McCulloch Road.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the pedestrian fell off the skateboard, hitting his head on the roadway.

A Dodge Charger traveling eastbound on McCulloch Road then hit the pedestrian.

According to troopers, the driver told them he felt an impact and continued driving, telling troopers he thought he hit an object or an animal that was in the roadway.

The driver of the Charger returned to the scene and is cooperating with investigators, troopers said.

The 18-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 22-year-old driver was not injured.
