Skechers to kick off in old Party City building

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Fasten your Velcro straps and turn on your light-up shoes! Skechers is slated to take over the old Party City building on Sunset Drive.

According to the City of San Angelo’s January 2024 permits and inspections report, a commercial project at 4141 Sunset Drive for Skechers amounting to $400,000 is pending.

The location at 4141 Sunset Drive has been vacant since the end of July 2023, when the party officially ended for San Angelo’s Party City following a blowout closing sale. The empty building neighbors pOpshelf, a variety store.

The apparel titan will need to shoehorn itself past some stiff competition if it wants to leave a footprint in San Angelo, though. The location is situated in the heart and sole (pun intended) of the city’s shoe scene, with 13 footwear and clothing stores occupying the same stretch of road as the planned location.

Potentially not helping matters is the history of the building the prospective storefront seeks to occupy. The location began as a Pier 1 Imports, which it stayed as until the company went bankrupt in 2020. It then housed Party City until 2023 after the store moved in from the adjacent building.

No other information related to construction or the store’s opening date has been released as of the time of publication.

Skechers may just come and go like the building’s previous occupants. However, if it starts off on the right foot, it has the potential to be a shoo-in for shoe-selling success.
