Skeletal remains found beside camera in wooded area of North Carolina, deputies say

Deputies in Western North Carolina have requested help after the body of an unknown man was found in a wooded area.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office say the remains were discovered Feb. 13 near Brasstown Road. It’s likely the victim is a taller male who is up to 50 years old, deputies said.

The victim has likely been dead “for some time,” but the sheriff’s office said there are no missing person cases in the area.

Beside the body was a digital camera, and deputies have uploaded pictures from it in their attempts to identify the remains. The person also was found with two pairs of glasses, a watch, flashlight and more small items.

If you recognize any of the items or have any information related to the case, contact the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office at 828-835-3144.

Cherokee County is in the westernmost corner of North Carolina, bordering Tennessee and Georgia.
