Skeletal remains in Williamson County identified

The Round Rock Police Department on Sunday identified human remains discovered by the Williamson County sheriff's office last week.

The remains of Timothy Perez, 32, of Conroe were found Tuesday in a field near Texas 45 and MoPac Boulevard (Loop 1), according to authorities.

Perez was last seen March 5 in Round Rock. A missing persons report was filed with the Austin Police Department before authorities in Round Rock began a follow-up investigation prior to Sunday's announcement.

“We are saddened to hear the news of Mr. Perez’s death," Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks said. "We were hopeful that he would be found alive. Our thoughts are with the family of Mr. Perez."

A rancher cutting hay in a field found the remains at 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to Williamson County Sheriff Mike Gleason. The field is on County Road 172, across the street from the Blessing RV Park and Manufactured Home Community, he said.

Investigators began combing through the field Wednesday and quickly dismissed the possibility that the remains were those of Rachel Cooke, a 19-year-old girl who disappeared after she went jogging in Georgetown in 2002 and has never been found.

The investigation of Perez's death is ongoing, and there are "no apparent signs" of criminal activity, authorities said.
