Skier Navigates Madrid Streets Amid Record-Breaking Snowfall

Storm Filomena brought the heaviest snow in 50 years to the Spanish city of Madrid on January 8 and 9, causing widespread travel disruption.

This footage, showing a person decked out in ski gear on the streets of Madrid, was captured by Katherine Robinson on January 8.

Robinson told Storyful said she “couldn’t believe” what she was seeing. “I managed to get a video just before he skied out of sight. I’ve certainly never seen anything like it in my life.”

Robinson added, “I’ve lived here 17 years and my husband was born here. He’s never seen snow like it in his 43 years of life and doesn’t expect to again.”

Spain’s State Meteorological Agency put a special warning in place until January 10. Four deaths have been reported as a result of the extreme weather. Credit: Katherine Robinson via Storyful
