Skip the lines at the Texas DMV to renew your driver’s license. Log in to this app instead

Texas by Texas, or TxT for short, is an easier, faster and more secure way for Texans to take care of government to-dos like driver’s license and vehicle registration renewals.

The “government assistant” from Texas.gov allows you to make your own account for Texas government matters, an official way to handle things like driver’s license/ID renewal and replacement as well as vehicle registration renewal.

To create your TxT account, visit txt.texas.gov. You can also download the official TxT mobile app from the Apple Store or Google Play Store.

  • You’ll need a personal email address and a Texas driver’s license or ID. There are also security steps to confirm your identity and make sure your account stays safe. You can set up your profile, choose your notification preferences and add payment methods. If you need to make changes, sign into TxT and update your account settings.

  • Once you create your account with a Texas driver’s license or ID, TxT keeps track of your upcoming deadlines, reminding you when it’s time to do certain things and letting you complete transactions in a few clicks.

  • Your TxT account lets you link and manage licenses and registrations with Texas government agencies like the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. They’re working to add more agencies and services to TxT.

  • You can use the app’s to-do list to keep track of upcoming deadlines for the licenses and registrations that are linked to your account. TxT will send emails and text reminders as well.
