Skittles Pride Packs Are Back, So the Colorful Candies Are Now Gray
Mars Wrigley is bring back its Skittles Pride Packs, which debuted in the United States last year after initially being released in Canada, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The candy was designed to support and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, and you’re probably noticing something very different about the pieces.
Instead of being the rainbow-filled bag that you know from Skittles, the brand has stripped the color to make every piece gray. Why? Because “only one rainbow matters during Pride,” as the packaging details. Skittles is asking that instead you “give the rainbow” throughout Pride Month, which is in June.
The limited-edition packs will be available in 4-ounce Share Size packs and 15.6-ounce resealable Sharing Size Stand Up Pouches. Although all the candy is gray, you’ll still get the original five fruity flavors — strawberry, orange, grape, green, apple, and lemon — you know and love. You’ll just have to trust your taste buds on which piece is which.
“Skittles is passionate about advocating for the LGBTQ+ community, which is why we have chosen to bring back SKITTLES Pride Packs as a symbol of our cemented efforts and support for the community,” Sarah Long, chief marketing officer, Mars Wrigley North America, said in a press release. “Through the return of SKITTLES Pride packs, we emphasize our commitment to not only being a great place to work, where all Associates can feel seen and accepted, but also our commitment to people in our communities by continuing to shape a world that is connected, caring and celebratory.”
Beginning at the end of May into early June, you can get the Skittles Pride Packs. They’ll be online and in stores at Walmart and Target, as well as in Albertsons and other select retailers. To make the candy a little sweeter, Skittles has partnered with GLAAD, the world’s leading LGBTQ+ media advocacy group, and will donate $1 to GLAAD for every pack purchased during the month of June, up to $100,000.
