Slain Reuters journalist is buried in his hometown
Hundreds of friends, family, and colleagues attended the ceremony, which took place on the grounds of the same university from where he had graduated.
Siddiqui had been embedded with Afghan special forces when he and a senior officer were killed by what an Afghan commander described as Taliban crossfire. A Taliban spokesperson has said the group wasn't aware of a journalist on the site of the battle.
Siddiqui's work had included the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong, and the coronavirus crisis in India. He was also on a team that won a Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of the Rohingya refugee crisis.
He is survived by his wife, Rike, and two young children.
