It’s Election Day! Which means—oh God—we’re one year out from the next presidential election.

To mark the occasion, longtime Trump watcher Ben Mathis-Lilley shares two things he knows for sure to be true about the former president, and explains why this latest episode of the Trump Show (his New York civil fraud trial) sure feels like a rerun.

Plus: A recent Washington Post report about Trump’s plans for a potential second term is pretty terrifying—but Richard L. Hasen finds one bright spot.

Speaking of it being a year out until the election … Joe Biden hasn’t been looking so hot in the polls. To understand the challenges his campaign faces, Christina Cauterucci walked a mile in the shoes (er, actually, novelty crop top) of a Biden fan girl, and shares what she learned.

It’s been one month since Hamas killed 1,400 people in the deadliest terror attack in Israel’s history—and one month since Israel began its military campaign to crush Hamas that has so far left more than 10,000 people dead in Gaza. Fred Kaplan identifies three reasons why there’s no end to the conflict in sight, and explains how winning the short-term battle might lose Israel the longer-term war.

Today the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in what is “perhaps the most important Second Amendment case it will ever confront,” Dahlia Lithwick writes. She spoke to Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts about how gun rights groups have been holding the plaintiff in the case, Zackey Rahimi, at arm’s length—but he actually serves as a perfect poster boy for the larger problem.

Trump really annoyed the judge in his New York civil fraud trial yesterday. In case you missed it, Shirin Ali is here to catch you up.

Plus: Robert Katzberg examines how the Trump legal team’s job just got much harder.

The most provocative cover story of 1990 seemed to blame Michael Jordan for “Black-on-Black crime.” Johnny Smith tells the story of how a racist panic over “sneaker murders” took a toll on the basketball star.

Taylor Swift’s go-to producer has become every pop music fan’s favorite scapegoat. Carl Wilson homes in on the real reason the internet hates Jack Antonoff.

… but, as Farhad Manjoo explained back in 2013 (blast from the past!), a lot of people probably won’t.

Not you, of course, since you read to the end!

Thanks so much for sticking with us, and we’ll see you back here tomorrow.
