Slidell man arrested for alleged involvement in Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol breach

WASHINGTON (WGNO) — A Slidell man was arrested on Friday, Feb. 16 for his alleged involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the United States Capitol.

According to the Department of Justice, 30-year-old Charles Tyler Himber was arrested and charged with a felony offense of civil disorder, related to his alleged attempt to disrupt the counting of electoral votes in the 2020 presidential election.

In addition to the felony, Himber is charged with several misdemeanor offenses, including knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, disorderly or disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly or disruptive conduct in a Capitol building, and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.

According to court documents, Himber attended the “Stop the Steal” rally, and then went to the Capitol, trespassing in the restricted perimeter.

Court documents allege Himber made his way to the east side of the Capitol, where he tried to enter the building through the East Rotunda Doors. He and other rioters then attempted to move past officers into the building, as Himber shouted, “Let us in!”

Himber and other rioters allegedly pushed past police and entered the Capitol Rotunda before they were surrounded by police and surrendered.

Officials with the DOJ said that Himber posted on social media “Storm in Capitol Hill is a go. Drain the swamp manually. Evacuating Capitol Hill pushing back.”

According to the DOJ, since the insurrection, more than 1,313 people have been charged in nearly every state for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol, including more than 469 people charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement, which is a felony.

Himber was arrested by the FBI in Golden Meadow and made his initial appearance in the Eastern District of Louisiana.
