Slipknot to bring 'Knotfest Roadshow 2022' tour to Memphis

Slipknot — the shock-rock collective known for its horrific masks, aggressive heavy metal sound and theatrical stage shows — is scheduled to make a rare Memphis appearance March 22 at FedExForum.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at Ticketmaster.com or the FedExForum box office. "Presale" begins at 10 a.m. Thursday, for current Memphis Grizzlies MVP Season Ticket Members, recipients of FedExForum Event Alert e-mails and subscribers of Grizzlies e-News.

The March 22 date is part of the first leg of the "Knotfest Roadshow 2022" tour, which will hit 18 cities in March and April. The opening acts will be In This Moment, a similarly theatrical metal band from Los Angeles, and Jinjer, a Ukraine "metalcore" act. The concert makes up for a June 2020 show at FedExForum that was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown.

Formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1995, Slipknot in its pre-arena years played such cozy Memphis venues as the New Daisy on Beale Street. The band is led by vocalist Corey Taylor, while other signature members include the coulrophobia-stoking Shawn "Clown" Crahan, who wears a scary clown mask onstage, and keyboardist Craig "133" Jones, whose spiky over-the-head leather mask suggests a startled S&M porcupine or Pinhead in need of a shave. The band refers to its fans, affectionately, as "Maggots."
