Corey Taylor, the lead singer of Des Moines favorite heavy metal band Slipknot, returns to his hometown on May 9 when he plays a solo gig at the Horizon Events Center, 2100 NW 100th St., Clive.

Some of his biggest hits include “Black Eyes Blue,” “CMFT Must Be Stopped,” “I’m Not Jesus,” “Samantha’s Gone” and “Hwy. 666.” Taylor was born in Des Moines, grew up in Waterloo and later returned to Des Moines.

Taylor also serves as the front man for Stone Sour, whose biggest song, “Through Glass,” racked up 89 million YouTube video views and went platinum in the U.S. Taylor formed Stone Sour in 1992 in Des Moines. Slipknot came together in Des Moines in 1995.

Back in 2020, Taylor told Metal Injection that his favorite Slipknot song is “Scissors.”

“To this day it’s my favorite Slipknot song. I love it because every time we would play it, the whole second half was improvised. We played at each other, free form, free prose, everything. It was violent and gorgeous. Nothing will ever replace it for me; when we stopped playing it live, I had a hard time enjoying our sets for a very long time,” he told the publication.
