SLO County airport breaks record for number of passengers in 2023

A record-breaking number of passengers traveled through the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport last year, according to airport administration.

In 2023, the airport served 660,745 passengers — 19% higher than in 2022, which in itself was another record-breaking year, according to a news release Thursday.

“It wouldn’t be possible to celebrate this achievement without recognizing our loyal passengers, airline partners and the local community for their integral role in our success,” county director of airports Courtney Johnson said in the release. “We look forward to building on this momentum in the coming year and aim to provide passengers with even better service to further solidify our position as a premier travel hub for the region.”

October was the airline’s busiest month in 2023, when the airline served 64,120 passengers, according to its annual airline passenger summary.

That’s an 18% increase from 2022, when 54,276 passengers traveled through the airport, the report said.

According to the data, the airport is now not only back to pre-pandemic levels, but is serving even more customers than ever before. In 2019, 544,575 passengers traveled through the airport, according to the release.

To help adjust to the growing number of passengers, United Airlines and American Airlines both “brought in larger aircraft to serve existing routes,” the release said.

Meanwhile, in December, Alaska Airlines launched a nonstop daily flight to Las Vegas.
