SLO County Verizon customers still unable to call 911, sheriff says

Verizon customers in San Luis Obispo County still could not place 911 calls for emergencies as of Monday morning, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.

The issue started Sunday evening, according to the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

911 calls by Verizon customers in San Luis Obispo County were being re-routed to the Sheriff’s dispatch center as the wireless network provider worked to fix the issue.

“As a result, callers should be aware that because their calls to 911 are coming to us on 7-digit lines instead of 911 lines, they must provide us the location of the emergency and their phone number from which they are calling as we will not be able to receive that information automatically,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Monday.

The Sheriff’s Office noted that the Verizon issue has not caused an interruption of the 911 system and all other calls are going through.

There have also been no delays in service, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

As of Monday morning there was no estimate from Verizon as to when the issue would be resolved.
