Hi foodies,
Who doesn’t love rotisserie chicken?
Succulent, slow-roasted birds soar to new heights at Pollo & Papas, a Fayetteville-owned restaurant that opened a few months ago at 7071 Raeford Road.
The fast-casual Peruvian spot generated enough buzz on the Fayetteville Foodies Facebook page that I knew I had to try it for myself — and I was delighted with the quick service and flavorful meal I experienced there.
I ordered a half-chicken, fried yuca and rice and beans with yellow and green sauces for about $16. The meat was as wonderful as you’d expect Peruvian-style rotisserie chicken, or pollo a la brasa, to be — juicy, well-seasoned and tender.
The poultry pairs perfectly with an herbaceous, bright and faintly spicy green sauce made with cilantro, jalapeno and lime. As for the sides, the rice and beans were tasty, but the fried yuca definitely stole the show.
Made from the root of the cassava plant, the yuca fries are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and darn near addictive when dipped in a garlicky yellow sauce made with Peruvian peppers and mayonnaise.
The whole affair is enough for two servings, but it was difficult not to devour it all at once.
Moral of the story: treat yourself to a taste of Peru at Pollo & Papas!
Happy eating,
Taylor
