'From The Slums of Shaolin': Staten Island's Wu-Tang Clan Gets Their Own District

Staten Island, the borough affectionately referred to as “Shaolin” by Wu-Tang Clan on their songs, officially received a district named after the New York hip-hop supergroup on Saturday, May 4.

According to a report from Staten Island Live, the streets of Park Hill – specifically the intersection of Targee Street and Vanderbilt Ave – are now known as “Wu-Tang Clan District” to honor the members of the group, most of whom originated from the region.

The decision to rename the area was supported by lawmakers including Councilwoman Debi Rose, who posted this footage on her social media pages, showing the unveiling of the new district sign.

“This is a great day where we have an opportunity to honor our own hometown heroes, the young men who put Staten Island on the map internationally,” Rose said, as reported by Staten Island Live.
