Small earthquake hits Kansas City area Friday
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A small earthquake hit the Kansas City area Friday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The USGS reports a preliminary magnitude-3.5 earthquake centered about 1 kilometer from Ferrelview in Platte County.
The agency said the small quake happened around 1:46 p.m. Friday.
Magnitude is the size of the earthquake, and lower numbers are considered more minor while higher magnitudes cause more damage. People can sometimes feel a 3.5 magnitude, but it rarely causes damage.
