A small earthquake outside Fillmore Friday night caused mild shaking felt from the coast to Santa Clarita but caused no reported damage, officials said.

The magnitude 3.5 quake, measured around 10:21 p.m., was centered about 5 miles west-northwest of Fillmore and about 6 miles deep, according to a preliminary report from the Southern California Seismic Network. The network is a collaborative project of the U.S. Geological Survey and the Caltech Seismological Laboratory in Pasadena.

A USGS map that collates reports from the public had gathered more than 250 responses. Weak to light shaking was felt widely around Ventura County, from Ojai to the coast and into the Conejo Valley and Simi Valley. Shaking was also reported in the San Fernando Valley and Santa Clarita areas in Los Angeles County, the map shows.

Ventura County Sheriff's Capt. Darin Hendren said Saturday morning there had been no reports of damage. The sheriff's office provides police services in Fillmore and surrounding unincorporated areas.

Sheriff's personnel who live in Fillmore said they felt the quake, Hendren said, although staff members in Santa Paula said they hadn't felt it.

Several smaller quakes were later reported outside Fillmore and Piru over the next few hours, USGS data show, all magnitude 2 or less.
