Small explosion caused by 'lit object' under investigation in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD−Police are investigating a small explosion Saturday night involving a "lit object" thrown from a pickup truck.

The explosion happened shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Squankum and Shafto roads. Home surveillance video shows two trucks, one light-colored and the other dark, driving south on Squankum Road together. The drivers stopped near a small wooded section, and an object was tossed from one of the trucks into the woods and exploded, police said.

Two pedestrians were 50 to 100 feet away, police said. No injuries were reported.

The Lakewood Civilian Safety Watch is assisting the police department in its investigation. Police are urging anyone with information to call Detective Kevin Donnelly at 732-363-0200 ext. 5346.
