This small Kentucky city was named the most expensive neighborhood in the state

A small Kentucky city with fewer than 3,000 residents has been dubbed the most expensive neighborhood in the state by one website.

Simpsonville, which is about 30 minutes from downtown Louisville, has an average home price of $1,569,977, according to the online lending site CashNetUSA. Simpsonville snagged the top spot for the most expensive Kentucky neighborhood.

CashNetUSA used real estate data from home site Zillow to identify neighborhoods in towns and cities across all 50 U.S. states. It then added all the home prices in each area together and divided by the number properties to get an average price in each neighborhood. Neighborhoods with fewer than 10 listings were not used in the analysis, and villages and small towns were considered to be neighborhoods within cities, including Simpsonville.

What to know about Simpsonville

Located in Shelby County, the area’s tourism website styles the region as the definitive destination for bourbon tourism. Shelby County is home to “two great distilleries, action-packed outdoor adventures and the best vacation rentals near Louisville,” it states.

It features several luxury amenities, including Kentucky’s only designer outlet mall. At The Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass, you can find products from designers like Calvin Klein, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren and Vera Bradley.

There’s also the Cardinal Club, which is the University of Louisville’s official golf club. At this championship 18-hole course, you can hone your skills. There’s also a 22-acre practice facility with a two-tiered range, an expansive short-game facility and Pro V1 range balls.

Simpsonville prides itself on playing host to the world’s premier American saddlebred horse farms. Equine attractions include Willow Hope Farm and Red Fern Riding Center.

The community was first incorporated in 1833, and for the bulk of its history, it remained a small, bucolic home to only 200 to 300 residents.

It wasn’t until after World War II Simpsonville’s growth really took off. The completion of Interstate 64 in 1965 offered an easy connection to Louisville. That allowed Simpsonville to add new residences, retail outlets and other amenities.
