This week there are new places, menus, and specials to taste test in the Greater New Bedford area. The food scene is growing and the local chefs are always flexing their culinary skills. Here are some places to check out and see what all the hype is about:

A new Marion restaurant opened its doors this week, Cast Seaside Bites & Bar is officially ready for lunch and dinner service at 7 Cottage Street. It is the sister restaurant of Wareham’s Ella's Wood Burning Oven Restaurant. They are dishing up small thoughtful plates of local ingredients and seafood. They have everything from a raw bar to Crudo & Ceviche, salads, small plates, and dessert; with small plates ranging from Baja Style Fish Tacos with pickled cabbage and chipotle crema for $7 to Grilled Spanish Octopus with avocado puree, cilantro, jalapeño, and lime for $19.

Destination Soups is more than just soups and this week they have a scrumptious sandwich on the menu. This week’s special is the Chicken cordon Bleu grilled cheese, grilled sourdough, melted Swiss and cheddar cheese, sliced ham, marinated chicken, and tangy honey mustard for $ 9.50. They also have s Gazpacho for a limited time, it has fresh mango and pear, cucumber, tomato, red onion, and summer herbs. Lunch is waiting for you at 149 Union St., New Bedford.

Have no fear New Bedford Whaling Museum has got you covered! First Friday: Cinco de Mayo is being held from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, May 5 at 18 Johnny Cake Hill, New Bedford,  stroll through the museum while listening to music, eating appetizers, and sipping craft drinks. There will be theme-inspired lite bites, Mexican-inspired music, and art. Try some food, taste some wine, raise some money

Join the Azorean Maritime Heritage Society for its  Sails of Portugal Food and Wine Tasting at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 13 at the United Fishermen Club, 639 Orchard St., New Bedford. The night will include a  wide selection of wine tastings, delicious food from local restaurants, and a silent auction. This is AMHS's most significant fundraising event. Proceeds from this event go towards the 12th Annual International Regatta to be held this Fall in New Bedford, water activities, boat maintenance, cultural programming, and our community scholarship fund. Looking for second lunch? Appy Hour at Cask & Pig Kitchen and Alehouse has 7 apps available for $9 or under from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday with a beverage purchase in the bar area. Order and share a few or taste test them yourself they have deviled eggs, fried pickles, Ahi Tuna, loaded poutine fries, sticky ribs, pretzel sticks, or boneless tenders with numerous sauce choices. The Ahi Tuna is five spice and sesame rubbed tuna with pickles onions, cucumber-wasabi slaw, crispy wontons, and sweet soy for $9 and the Sticky Ribs are fried baby back ribs, sweet chili glaze, wasabi aioli, sesame seeds, and Asian slaw for $8.

The Charred Oak Tavern listened to its customers and rolled out a new menu with some of the classics their guests were missing. Those included the Bourbon Salmon, Vegan Pad Thai, Chicken Marsala, Loaded Chicken, and Short Rib Mac and Cheese. The Bourbon Glazed Salmon is pan-seared salmon with bourbon barrel-ages maple and two sides for $32 and the Vegan Pad Thai has rice noodles, broccoli, garlic, carrots, and scallions for $18.
