Feb. 11—Applications open for Northern New Mexico Horsemen's Association scholarship

The Northern New Mexico Horsemen's Association, a Santa Fe-based nonprofit dedicated to equestrian education, is accepting applications for its Eldon and Karen Reyer Youth Scholarship, which supports students interested in pursuing higher education in agriculture or equine science.

To be eligible for the $2,000 scholarship, students must hold a high school diploma or equivalent, be a New Mexico resident and complete an application.

Human Services Department to offer job-training services for SNAP customers

New Mexico's Human Services Department announced last week it will collaborate with Central New Mexico Community College and Clovis Community College to launch its Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment and Training program, designed to provide SNAP customers with additional education, apprenticeship and job-training opportunities.

"The goal of the program is to increase participants' access to training and support services, enabling them to enter or advance in the workforce more effectively," Karmela Martinez, director of income support for the New Mexico Human Services Department, said in a news release announcing the program.

The program is voluntary and free for SNAP customers. Interested participants can contact the Human Services Department by calling 505-469-9574 or by emailing hsd-snap.et@hsd.nm.gov.

SFCC Visual Arts Gallery opens 'Celebration of the Book'

Santa Fe Community College's Visual Arts Gallery will open a new art exhibition, Celebration of the Book, with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday.

The exhibition features works — sculptural, two-dimensional or multi-dimensional book art — by the members of the Santa Fe Book Arts Group and Libros New Mexico Book Arts Guild.

Celebration of the Book, which is free and open to the public, will continue through March 22.

Diné storyteller next speaker in 'The Writing Generation Series'

Manny Loley, a Diné storyteller, will be the next speaker in the Santa Fe Community College Library and the Institute for American Indian Arts' "The Writing Generation Series," with an online reading at 6 p.m. Feb. 21 and a follow-up creative session at 6 p.m. Feb. 28.

The online series, which is free, open to the public and will take place throughout the spring, will include readings from New Mexico writers and creative sessions intended to allow attendees time to write.
