Smell from airport elevator shaft leads Indonesian officials to missing woman’s body
A woman was found dead at an airport in Indonesia after entering an elevator and going missing, officials said.
The woman, Aisiah Sinta Dewi Hasibuan, was accompanying her nephew to the airport on Monday, April 24, her brother told Tribun News, an Indonesian outlet. As she was leaving, her nephew called and asked her to come back.
Hasibuan went back inside the airport and got in an elevator while still on the phone with her nephew, her brother told the outlet. On the call, she told her nephew she was trapped in the elevator. Her nephew asked where, but the call had dropped, Hasibuan’s brother said.
Airport officials told Medan Kompas TV that the woman had taken the elevator to the second floor. The elevator had two sets of doors, and she got off on the wrong side, officials said.

Three days after Hasibuan went missing, people at the airport smelled something rotten in the bottom of the elevator shaft, officials told Lintas Warta, an Indonesian outlet. A technician checked the elevator and found the woman’s body, the outlet reported on April 27.
Officials have not determined Hasibuan’s cause of death but suspected she died in the fall, Medan Kompas TV reported.
