‘You can smell the dirty money’: 80 arrested in ‘Operation Zero Chill’

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A sheriff’s department in Florida has “zero chill” about drugs in their county.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office announced that they made 80 narcotics-related arrests over several months. This operation was focused on street and mid-level drug dealers.

The sheriff’s office seized over two kilos of cocaine, along with “significant amounts” of crack cocaine, methamphetamine, MDMA, oxycodone, over 2,000 pills, and 14 firearms.

Nearly $100,000 in drug profits and nearly a kilo of fentanyl were also recovered. “You can smell the dirty money,” Sheriff Carmine Marceno said.

“Mark my words. The poison peddlers here in this county will be exposed. My family continues to persevere in our efforts to defeat the enemy of narcotics — to ensure our community is a safe place to live,” the sheriff said. “It’s our job, like cancer, to eradicate that [narcotics] and get rid of it and take this poison off the street.”

The sheriff’s department said they encourage residents to send tips, which can be made anonymously, to report the presence of narcotics in their community.
