A mysterious series of smiley face signs have been springing up by Taunton Lake for a few years now, and Medford residents want to know who to thank.

Medford locals driving past Taunton Lake have probably spotted this face peering back at them from the side of the road.

A smile.

One circular wooden, 2D face, greeting motorists who pass, challenging them to have a good day.

When Kim Rambo Martin inquired in the public "Medford 08055" Facebook group about the culprit's wellbeing (the sign hadn't changed in a few weeks), whoever they are answered swiftly.

A new smile, this one painted in pastel quadrants, was out on duty the following morning.

"A quick drive by this morning from not the best angle shows our deliverer of happiness to be alive and well!" Martin wrote in a comment replying to her post.

The original inquiry led to the lively commentary of many who admire the smiles that have popped up over the years, although nobody seems to know who's responsible or exactly when they started.

"All [through] the pandemic coming home from work I would look forward to see what the smile was going to be. Thank you whoever you are for bringing sunshine to my life," one commenter wrote.

"It's a mystery to us on Taunton Lake but we absolutely love it!" said another.

It seems like the mystery surrounding these Medford smiley faces is half of the fun.
