Smithville homecoming queen, princess named as team gets victory over Rittman

Smithville High School celebrated basketball homecoming Friday before to the game against Rittman.

Madelyn Lengacher was named queen and Sophia Besancon was named princess by 2023 Queen Taylor Leach. Leach was escorted by crown bearer Tre Smith and flower girl Annie Smith.

Lengacher is the daughter of Kyle and Karen Lengacher. She is active in volleyball and track. She is on the LEAD team, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the literacy leaders action team. She is involved in her church youth group and mission trips.

She plans to attend Mount Vernon Nazarene University where she will major in early childhood education and be a part of the track and field program.

Besancon is the daughter of Burney Besancon and Richelle Carpenter. She is a football cheerleader and member of the LEAD team where she is a team coordinator. She is involved in the homecoming, prom and literacy leaders action teams. She plans to attend the University of Akron and study primary inclusive teaching.

Senior attendants were Abby Besancon and Adeline Thorn.

Besancon is the daughter of Brent and Karrie Besancon. She is on the Literacy Leaders and Mentors Action Teams. She has been involved with 4-H for 10 years showing market lambs at the Wayne County Fair. She also participates in her church youth group and enjoys working on her family dairy farm. She plans to attend college and major in communications.

Thorn is the daughter of Scott and Melissa Thorn. She is a captain of the girls soccer team as well as a member of the track team. She is active in National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the hospitality action team. She serves on the Grace Kids group at her church. Upon graduation, she plans to attend Bluffton University where she will study business and creative writing and be a part of the soccer team.

Lila Feil and Hailey Thut represented the junior class.

Feil is the daughter of Edwin and Samantha Feil. She is a member of Foreign Language Club and the Mentors action team. She is active in the SHS Art program and works at the Ott’s coffee trailer.

Thut is the daughter of Mark and Kathy Thut. She is on the soccer and track teams, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and National Honor Society. She is active in 4-H and Grace Kids group at her church.

Sophomore attendants were Reagan Gherian and Kiersten Ross.

Gherian is the daughter of Justin and Lisa Gherian. She is on the basketball and softball teams. She is active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes and her church youth group. Ross is the daughter of George and Kristen Ross. She is on the volleyball, basketball and softball teams. She is a member of the LEAD Team and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is on the mentors and literacy leaders action teams.

Faith Lengacher and Annalise Wertz were the freshman class attendants.

Lengacher is the daughter of Kyle and Karen Lengacher. She is on the volleyball, basketball, and track teams. She participates in the LEAD team, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 4-H, and her church youth group.

Wertz is the daughter of Jon and Kristin Wertz. She plays volleyball and is active in her church youth group. She enjoys working at her dad’s restaurant and being with family and friends.

The homecoming royalty and court will reign over Winter Formal, which will be held Jan. 27.
