Smithville High School Foreign Language Club recently held its annual banquet at The Pines Restaurant. The theme was Oktoberfest, and the room was decorated in light blue and white to match the Bavarian flag. The students entered to appetizers of pretzel bites and cheese.

The meal was an authentic German buffet, featuring pork loin, bratwurst, chicken paprikash, sauerkraut, red cabbage, dumplings, green beans, potato soup, mashed potatoes, cucumber salad and cheesecake bites with four different toppings for dessert.

After the meal, a program of comical skits in German and Spanish was enjoyed by all. Spanish acts were, “¿Qué hora es?," “Wishing Well," “The Doctor´s Office," “La oficina," “Señorita Universo," and “J.C.Penney." German acts were “Die deutsche Sprache ist nicht schön?," “Die Schüler in Deutsch 1 fliegen nach Deutschland," and “Wir schaffen das!."

The event was planned by the Foreign Language Club officers president, Carter Fath; vice president, Aiden Keener; secretary, Jake Kromer; treasurer, Sadie Steiner and activities director Maddilyn Brillhart.
