Smoke Billows From Pine Gulch Fire as Colorado Blaze Grows to Over 30,000 Acres

The Pine Gulch Fire burning in Colorado’s west grew to over 30,000 acres on August 10, producing massive towers of smoke visible from the nearby city of Grand Junction.

Evacuations had been ordered for parts of Garfield County as the fire spread northeast.

The wildfire was started by a lightning strike on July 31 and has been described as exhibiting extreme fire behaviour, according to firefighting authorities.
