Smoke From Canada's Ongoing Wildfires to Impact US, Forecasters Say

Smoke from wildfires burning in Alberta, British Columbia, and the Northwest Territories was forecasted to impact the United States “in the coming days,” researchers said on Tuesday, May 16.

Timelapse satellite imagery posted by the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) at Colorado State University shows smoke drift across Canada into the US from Monday afternoon into the evening.

By Tuesday morning, 87 active wildfires burned across Alberta, according to official fire information, while 62 burned in British Columbia. Credit: CIRA via Storyful
