Smokecraft Modern Barbecue Coming To Clarendon July 31

ARLINGTON, VA — Barbecue lovers will soon have another venue to enjoy some award-winning smoky goodness to Clarendon. Smokecraft Modern Barbecue will be opening its doors to the public on Friday, July 31, at 1051 N. Highland St.

“We are excited to finally be able to share our award-winning barbecue with the local community,” said Owner and Pitmaster Andrew Darneille, in a release. “While these are challenging times to open a restaurant, we will continue to evolve our brand, while never waiving in our commitment to use the highest quality products to produce an amazing barbecue dining experience.”

Smokecraft Championship BBQ is not just boasting when it describes itself as "award-winning." In 2019, the restaurant's team won more than 70 awards, and last month, it was named a CBS Pork Team of the Year Finalist, and Reserve Grand Champions at the York County BBQ Festival.

At its Clarendon location, Smokecraft will offer a diverse menu for lunch, dinner, and bunch, as well as dynamic beverage offerings and an expansive takeout menu.

Darneille originally intended to open Smokecraft in the spring, but the coronavirus pandemic forced him to rethink his business model and adopt CDC and Virginia guidance to ensure the health and safety of his staff and customers. The seating in the restaurant will be set up to allow enough space for social distancing, menus will be projected on screens to minimize touchpoint, and the takeout program will offer to-go beverage options.

Danielle will be joined in the kitchen by Executive Sous Chef William Burke, who specializes in everything from preserving and canning to low and slow barbecue. In addition, Chief Mixologist Lauren “LP” Paylor has designed an interactive beverage program for the restaurant’s expansive 35-foot bar.

Smokecraft will offer dine-in service, takeout, and delivery, Monday through Thursday, from 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Fridays, from 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; Saturdays, from 10 a.m.-11 p.m.;and Sundays, from 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
