Snake Catcher Tickles Large Carpet Python to Get It Out of Lawn Mower

A Queensland snake catcher was called out to remove an unusual stowaway in a lawn mower after a man attempted to move the machine but noticed something stuck underneath it.

Stuart McKenzie of Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 posted the video on Facebook on December 19 showing him “tickling” the python to get it to leave the dangerous underside of the mower.

McKenzie, who wrote about the incident on Facebook, speculated that the “nice-sized carpet python” was probably sleeping underneath the mower. McKenzie later let the snake loose in some nearby bushland. Credit: Stuart McKenzie via Storyful

STUART MCKENZIE: We're just pulling up to a large townhouse complex here in Maroochydore, where the gentleman's gone to mow the lawns. Because it's a little bit overcast this morning, not raining. So he thought he'd get out and mow the lawns. And he went to push the mower, and the thing wouldn't move. It was like jammed. And then he's lifted it up, and there's a snake underneath the lawn mower. So it's lucky he pushed it before he started it. But we're going to head in here now and find out what's under the mower. How are you, mate?

- All right. And you?

- It's just a python, but he's curling up under my mower.

STUART MCKENZIE: Yeah, right, he's underneath the--

- Don't want to have to push the mower.

STUART MCKENZIE: --the lawn mower.

- [INAUDIBLE]. So I don't know how long he's--

STUART MCKENZIE: So he's underneath the lawn mower?

- [INAUDIBLE]

STUART MCKENZIE: That's all right.

- [INAUDIBLE]

STUART MCKENZIE: No, it's all good.

- [INAUDIBLE]

STUART MCKENZIE: All good. Well--

- He's all wrapped up underneath.

STUART MCKENZIE: Yeah, it's not the best hiding spot.

- Yeah, just take that off.

STUART MCKENZIE: Is he actually up in it, or is he just under it?

- Underneath it.

STUART MCKENZIE: [LAUGHS]

- Oh, my gosh.

STUART MCKENZIE: Is he up in the blade?

- Well, you know-- yeah, you can hold that up.

- It's only an electric mower.

STUART MCKENZIE: Yeah, just glad you didn't start it.

- That would have been messy.

STUART MCKENZIE: Yes.

- He might even be caught.

STUART MCKENZIE: No, he's all right.

- Is he all right?

STUART MCKENZIE: Yeah, so the blades are sharp. I'll let him come out by himself, just because-- out you come. Because if I start pulling on him, he'd-- he'd hurt himself.

- Poor little dear.

- No, he's all right.

STUART MCKENZIE: He's all right. Just give him--

- [INAUDIBLE]

STUART MCKENZIE: Just give him a tickle. He'll come out.

- He's quite big, yeah. I thought he'd get up and move. But--

STUART MCKENZIE: No, buddy. Watch your head.

- He's pretty lengthy.

STUART MCKENZIE: Yeah, he's got a bit of length about him.

- I wonder if it's the same one [INAUDIBLE].

STUART MCKENZIE: Come here.

- [INAUDIBLE] biggie.

- [INAUDIBLE]

STUART MCKENZIE: A beautiful snake, just certainly not what you need under your lawn mower.

- Can I just have a photo?

STUART MCKENZIE: Yeah. No worries.

- That's pretty long, eh?

STUART MCKENZIE: Yeah. Beautiful. All right, bud, back in the bush for you. Come here, Mr. Lawn Mower Python. Beautiful dark patterns, isn't that a beautiful snake? See how good, eh?

All right. You want to go for a climb? That will not hold your body weight. That's it. That's it. You're a python. You're meant to be a good climber. Up you go.
