Sneakers for Santa basketball event showcases IU, Purdue recruits and state's top players

The Ryan Owens Allstate Sneakers for Santa Shootout is set for Saturday with seven high school boys basketball games at Brownsburg. A look at the matchups and more details:
North Central vs. Bloomfield, 10 a.m.: This is an interesting matchup between big school and small school, but Class A top-ranked Bloomfield (2-0) is a program accustomed to knocking off larger programs. The Cardinals are led by 6-7 senior Peter Combs, senior guard Brett Sherrard, freshman Blake Neill and senior Justin Beard. North Central (1-1) is led by 6-6 senior Joey Brown and 5-9 junior Mason Lewis. The Panthers host Tech on Friday night, while Bloomfield hosts Shakamak.
Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame:Star-filled group to be inducted in 2023 men's class
NorthWood vs. Beech Grove, 11:30 a.m.: This is a matchup between the defending Class 3A state champions (Beech Grove) and the team currently ranked No. 1 in 3A (NorthWood). NorthWood (2-0) is led by 6-3 senior Cade Brenner (22.5 ppg, 4.0 rebounds), who is 13 points from becoming the 10th player in program history to reach 1,000 points. Others to watch are sophomore Tyler Raasch (16.5 ppg, 5.5 rebounds), junior Ethan Wolfe (12.5 ppg, 5.5 assists) and 6-6 senior Ian Raasch (10.0 ppg, 9.0 rebounds). Beech Grove (1-1) is a senior-led group with Jeremiah Tate (12.5 ppg), Jaleel Edwards (12.0 ppg, 3.5 assists), Cam Brown (9.5 ppg) and Jeremiah Alexander (9.0 ppg, 6.0 assists) among the players to watch. NorthWood hosts Triton on Friday night and Beech Grove is at on Speedway.
Zionsville vs. Gary 21st Century, 1:15 p.m.: Zionsville (0-2) has a tough game against Westfield before this one. The Eagles are led by 6-4 senior and Penn State commit Logan Imes and 6-9 senior and Charlotte commit Nick Richart. Gary 21st Century (2-0), ranked No. 9 in 2A, is led by seniors Ashton Williamson (21.5 ppg, 9.5 assists), D.J. Moss (14.5 ppg, 9.0 rebounds) and Quintin Floyd (13.5 ppg, 10.0 rebounds). Gary 21st is at Bowman Academy on Friday night before making the trip south.
Heritage Christian vs. Linton-Stockton, 3 p.m.: This is a matchup of two of the top seniors in the state as 6-5 senior and Purdue recruit Myles Colvin leads Class 3A Heritage Christian and 6-4 senior and Central Florida commit Joey Hart leads Class 2A top-ranked Linton-Stockton (1-0). Hart had 24 points, six rebounds and six assists in the Miners’ 76-44 season-opening win over Northview. Senior Logan Webb and 6-5 junior Braden Walters are other plyers to watch for Linton-Stockton. Senior guards Dylan Doss and Isaac Wilson are key players for Heritage Christian, along with Colvin.
Brownsburg vs. Heritage Hills, 4:45 p.m.: This is a matchup between one of the top juniors in the state in 6-6 Purdue recruit Kanon Catchings (20.5 ppg, 8.0 rebounds) of Brownsburg and 6-8 Heritage Hills sophomore Trent Sisley, who had 28 points and six assists in his season opener. He has offers from Indiana, Purdue, Iowa, Michigan State and Ohio State. Brownsburg (2-0), ranked fifth in 4A, is also led by senior Elhadj Diallo (19.5 ppg, 9.0 rebounds) and junior Grant Porath (11.5 ppg). The Bulldogs host Franklin Central Friday.
Ben Davis vs. Kokomo, 6:30 p.m.: Two of the top teams in Class 4A meet in this one. Ben Davis, ranked second, is 2-0 after wins over Fishers and Zionsville. Zane Doughty, 6-9 senior and Valparaiso recruit, averaged 19.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in the first two games for the Giants. Others to watch include seniors Sheridan Sharp and Clay Butler, junior K.J. Windham and sophomore Mark Zackery. Kokomo, which played in a semistate last year, is led by 6-9 junior and top-10 national prospect Flory Bidunga, who had 16 points and 15 rebounds in a season-opening loss to Westfield. Others to watch include seniors Shayne Spear, Zavion Bellamy and Patrick Hardimon and sophomore Zion Bellamy. Kokomo is at Peru Friday, while Ben Davis hosts Pike.
Cathedral vs. Centerville (Ohio), 8:15 p.m.: Class 4A top-ranked and defending state champion Cathedral (2-0) is led by seniors Jaron Tibbs (scored 26 points in first game), 6-11 Michigan State recruit Xavier Booker (19.5 ppg, 10.0 rebounds, 3.5 blocked shots) and Mercer recruit Jake Davis (16.0 ppg, 8.0 rebounds) and Sincere Germany (10.0 ppg). Centerville’s top player is Indiana commit Gabe Cupps, a 6-2 guard. He was voted Ohio Mr. Basketball last year, averaging 14.3 points, 6.8 assists and 2.5 rebounds as a junior.
