"Saturday Night Live" jumped in headfirst during the show's cold open and took a series of comedic shots at a trio of Republican candidates in heated midterm election races, including Donahue, Iowa, native Kari Lake.

Lake, an Arizona gubernatorial candidate and former longtime news anchor in the state, was roasted in the sketch alongside Georgia U.S. Senate candidate Herschel Walker and former talk show host Dr. Mehmet Oz, who is running for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania.

The bit featured imaginary appearances by the three candidates, locked in controversial races, during an episode of PBS NewsHour with host Jody Woodruff.

The 53-year-old Lake, an alum of North Scott Senior High School in Eldridge and a University of Iowa graduate, was portrayed by longtime 'SNL' fan-favorite Cecily Strong.

"Great to be with you, Judy, on your sweet little show full of lies," Strong as Lake said while joining the fake version of PBS NewsHour.

Throughout the six-minute segment, the cast poked fun at the former longtime FOX 10 Phoenix news anchor's measured TV news-style demeanor from over two decades on the airwaves.

"Frankly, I’ve just clicked with many of the wonderful, terrified elderly people here in Arizona, the Florida of the West," Strong as Lake said, explaining her recent swing-state success in one of the country's most talked about races for the governorship.

Lake, a first-time political candidate, is garnering widespread attention for her outspoken support of former President Donald Trump.

"Also, I’m a fighter," Strong as Lake continued. "In my life, I’ve sent back over 2,000 salads, and I’m not afraid to do the same thing with democracy.”

Lake is locked in a close race with Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs. The matchup is seen as a bellwether for both Republicans and Democrats during a controversial midterm election season.
