Comedian Joe Piscopo attended the fundraiser in Bedminster, New Jersey on Thursday, which he described as a small gathering for President Donald Trump’s friends. (Oct. 2)
JOE PISCOPO: They adhered to everything, I must say. And it was a private event, so I don't want to talk-- I don't want to break confidences except to say security was meticulous. The Secret Service-- a big shoutout to the Secret Service of the United States. A big shoutout-- the law enforcement, that was doing a great job.
And then they tested everybody for COVID. They were meticulous about that. The first thing they said when you go-- Joe, you got to be tested. You can't-- you got to be tested. I want to tell you, they were very, very careful.
And then when the president came out, what I saw-- we were way-- I had to be, you know, 50 yards-- is that right-- from the president, maybe 30 yards from the president, you know, because he said-- he gave me a shoutout. Oh, it was so cool. He said, hey, my friend Joe Piscopo is here-- like that. I went, whoa.
And I was just there as a political observer, you know, and being a friend to the president for, like, over 30 years, please. And so I waved. I was so far away from the president, I didn't know if he could see me. I went, I'm here. President Trump, I'm over here-- you know, way in the back.
So I think we're OK, but I'm trying to stay positive. And I think all we care about is that the president cared enough to show up, to show his loyalty, his character, his commitment to his friends in Bedminster, New Jersey. A lot of his friends were there, and he kept his distance, from what I saw.
So you know what we're thinking? Not well, am I worried? I'm grateful to the president for even taking the time and coming in, you know, and showing his commitment of friendship. And again, I was so far away, I didn't even think about the virus.
