Saturday Night Live's Kenan Thompson has been announced as the host of this year's White House Correspondents' Association Dinner.

Comedian Hasan Minhaj—best known for hosting Netflix's Patriot Act—will be this year's featured entertainer, per the Hollywood Reporter.

The choice of Thompson, who is SNL's longest-running current cast member with 17 seasons under his belt, marks a return to tradition for the annual event. Last year's dinner was marked by the unusual choice to enlist a historian rather than a comedian—Ron Chernow, whose Alexander Hamilton biography inspired Lin Manuel Miranda's groundbreaking Broadway musical—to be the night's key speaker.

"Kenan and Hasan are two of the most engaged and engaging entertainers in America. I’m thrilled they’ll help us celebrate the role of a free press in our democracy," said Jonathan Karl, chief White House correspondent for ABC News and president of the WHCA. "We’re looking forward to a lively evening honoring the most important political journalism of the past year."

This year's dinner will take place on Saturday, April 25, and will feature a pair of new awards for excellence in journalism—the Katharine Graham Award for Courage and Accountability and the Award for Excellence in Presidential News Coverage by Visual Journalists—in addition to the existing Aldo Beckman Award for Overall Excellence in White House Coverage and Merriman Smith Award for Excellence in Presidential News Coverage Under Deadline Pressure.

In keeping with his own tradition, President Trump is not expected to attend this year's dinner. Trump has skipped the event every year since his inauguration in 2017.
