Two of the biggest names in hip-hop, Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa, will return to Camden this summer as part of their seven-week High School Reunion Tour.

The Camden stop will be July 30 at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion (the same site as their previous concert, but the venue’s name has changed) and is believed to be the first time the two have performed together in Camden since Aug. 5, 2016 when a railing collapse caused injuries to at least 42 people, prompting lawsuits.

The tour kicks off July 7 in Vancouver and wraps on Aug. 27 in Irvine, California. It will also feature Too Short, Warren G, Berner and DJ Drama.

The only other New Jersey stop will be Aug. 2 at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, Monmouth County.

What happened with rail collapse

At the 2016 concert at the BB&T Pavilion (which is now Freedom Mortgage Pavilion), a partition separating attendees from a secondary stage collapsed about 10:20 p.m. Dozens were sent tumbling to the concrete about 10 feet below at the Camden Waterfront amphitheater.

A total of 42 people were hurt, mostly with minor injuries, including 34 people taken to four South Jersey hospitals. The rest were treated at the scene.

Snoop Dogg sent wishes to the injured victims in a tweet the next afternoon: “Prayers out to my fans. wishn u all a quick recovery. Love,” he wrote. Wiz Khalifa tweeted, “Hope everyone from last night is alright,” and called the incident “crazy.”

Lawsuits filed

Lawyers representing 17 people allegedly injured at the concert filed a lawsuit against the venue's operator and the performers claiming they didn't take enough precautions to ensure the safety of attendees. One concertgoer claimed his spine was fractured.

In 2019, lawyers filed a suit on behalf of a Vineland teen who was also allegedly injured that night at the concert.

Snoop-Wiz collab

The Snoop-Wiz partnership includes their work on the “Mac & Devin Go to High School” soundtrack, which produced the 2011 hit “Young, Wild & Free.”

The Detroit Free Press stated that they “struck gold again three years later” with the single “You and Your Friends.” In 2016, the pair embarked on the coheadlining "High Road Summer Tour", which stopped in Camden.
