Snorkel, get a massage or stuff your face: Here’s what’s open this weekend in Miami

We are halfway through August, which means we’re chugging slowly — oh so slowly — toward the worst of hurricane season. But relax. That tropical depression floating around in the Caribbean shouldn’t affect us this weekend, which means many of you are wondering what to do if you decide to leave the house.

If you are in desperate need of pampering, Miami Spa Months has started, offering deals at some of Miami-Dade’s most luxurious spas through Sept. 30. Or maybe you want to get out on the water: Biscayne National Park is offering socially distanced snorkeling trips (you’ll need a different kind of mask for that).

Or maybe you want to grab a bite to eat. Chef Adrianne’s just reopened in Kendall at a new location with outdoor dining, and there’s a new spot for burgers in Doral. And this could be your last chance to order a steak and a mountain of fries at Westchester’s beloved Rio Cristal, which closes for good at the end of the month.

Here’s what you can and can’t do this weekend, Aug. 14-16, in Miami. When you’re making plans, remember Miami-Dade County has a daily curfew from 10 p.m.-6 a.m.

Masks are mandatory in Miami-Dade County with a few exceptions; if you’re caught without one, you could be fined.

Want to get away from it all? The Biscayne National Park Institute has started a new Small Group Snorkel Experience to maintain social distancing on snorkeling trips to the reef, mangroves or shipwrecks.

RESTAURANTS

Restaurants are open for outdoor dining, takeout or delivery under Miami-Dade County’s latest COVID-19 restrictions. Some restaurants have closed temporarily during the COVID-19 outbreak, while others have closed for good. Still others have dramatically changed their menus to better serve takeout customers.

BARS

Bars are closed unless they have a food license. If they do have a license, they can only serve drinks outdoors and must abide by the Miami-Dade County curfew.

NIGHTCLUBS

Nightclubs are still closed under county rules.

BEACHES

County beaches are open.

MOVIE THEATERS

Movie theaters are still closed in Miami-Dade County, but there are a few pop-up drive-in movie spots around town, including the newest one at the Miami Youth Fairgrounds, which opens this weekend. Two AMC movie theaters in Broward, one in Fort Lauderdale and the other in Pembroke Pines are planning to reopen Aug. 20.

All Miami-Dade parks are open, and so are marinas and golf courses. Note: Miami Beach has closed all basketball courts in city parks. Basketball rims have been removed.
