Snow Blankets Minneapolis Airport Ahead of Christmas

Travelers at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) encountered snowy conditions on Tuesday, December 21, as Americans took to the skies ahead of Christmas under a heightened COVID-19 threat.

Temperatures in the Twin Cities area, which remained well below freezing on Tuesday, were forecast to rise throughout the week before dropping again on Christmas Day.

Despite the threat of a nationwide surge in COVID-19 cases fueled by the Omicron variant, airports were crowded in the lead up to year-end holidays. Local officials predict that some 35,000 people will be processed at security checkpoints at the airport on the two days following Christmas. Credit: Robindro Saikhom via Storyful
