If your Christmas wish is snow this season, Santa may have other plans.

The Farmers’ Almanac Christmas predictions are in for Saturday, Dec. 24 to Tuesday, Dec. 27 and for many regions in the country, snow is out of the question.

Only a couple states in the U.S. will have a white Christmas this year, according to Farmers’ Almanac. Other regions are looking pretty gray.

Southeast:

Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida

  • The southern states will need rain boots, not snow boots; plenty of rain showers are expected for Christmas this year.

  • Showers are expected to start Dec. 20 and continue through the week.

South Central:

Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico

  • Snow is predicted for northern New Mexico, but in the southern part of the state, rain is expected.

  • Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas are predicted to see rain as well.

  • Temperatures for Louisiana will drop after rain hits Dec. 20. The weather will clear for a few days, but rain showers will return by Dec. 24.

North Central:

Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana

  • Snowy weather is forecast over the Rockies and Plains, just in time for Santa.

Northeast and New England:

New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Washington D.C.

  • This region will have a wet and rainy Christmas; however after the rain passes, the weather is expected to be very cold.

  • Snow will be over the Rockies and Plains in time for Christmas, Dec. 24 to Dec. 27.

Great Lakes, Ohio Valley & Midwest:

Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Wisconsin

  • These states are looking at a slushy sleigh ride this Christmas with a mix of rain, sleet and snow.

  • For the week before Christmas, expect snow across the Midwest and points east, then fair and very cold weather.

Northwest:

Washington, Oregon, Idaho

  • Instead of peaceful snow, this region is predicted to see some winter storms.

Southwest:

California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona

  • Storms will rule this region as well; similar to the northwest, this region is expected to see lots of rain and storms.

How does the Farmers’ Almanac predict weather?

The Farmers’ Almanac was founded in 1818 and utilizes a secret formula, with components such as “sunspot activity, tidal action, the position of the planet” to predict long-range weather forecasts. The forecasts are typically made two years in advance and are made by Caleb Weatherbee, a pseudonym for all the combined forecasters since the Almanac first began.

Over the years, fans of the Farmers’ Almanac have calculated that the predictions are accurate 80-85% of the time.
