Snow Crushes Boats At Lake Norman Marinas: Reports
MOORESVILLE, NC — Several marinas around Lake Norman have collapsed from the weight of snow, crushing as many as 20 boats, according to reports.
Images of the flattened marinas hit social media, pancaking boats under snow layered roofs.
“Firefighters think 20 boats are crushed,” tweeted WSOC’s Mark Barber. “They’re checking to make sure fuel isn’t leaking into Lake Norman.
“Three marinas and a lot of boaters lost out in the snow,” wrote Lee Dahlen.
Another marina on Lake Norman has collapsed. This is at Bill’s Marina. Boat owner here tells me he is, “just happy it’s still floating.” #WBTV pic.twitter.com/ESFp2943rJ

The marina collapses are but one aspect of the destruction caused by the winter storm that is responsible for at least two deaths and a “staggering amount” of snow and rain, with some areas of the state receiving a year’s worth of snow in one day, Gov. Roy Cooper said Monday morning. “Conditions remain treacherous,” Cooper said, warning that colder temperatures Monday evening could “turn roads into ice rinks.”
