Snow on Delmarva? Maybe not, but brace for a wet, windy burst of winter weather

If forecasts are accurate, Salisbury can look forward to wintery weather later this week that includes rain, sleet, and a slight chance for outright snow.

Snow? Maybe not, but get ready for at least rainy Salisbury weekend

According to the National Weather Service, possible severe weather rolls in Thursday with cloudy, then mostly sunny skies, with a high near 46 degrees. Northwest winds are expected from 6 to 11 mph, increasing to 12 to 17 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph.

The best chance for sleet or slight flurries will come Saturday, with a chance of rain and snow before 10 a.m., then rain. High temperatures are expected near 50 degrees, with a 100% chance of precipitation.

Rain, mainly before 1 a.m. on Saturday night, continues with a chance of showers. Low temperatures are forecasted around 34. Chances of precipitation remains at 80%.

The Wakefield weather service office has not issued any weather warnings for the region at the time of publication.

A rainy weekend coming too for Ocean City

Ocean City can expect similar conditions on Thursday, with a slight chance of showers before 10 a.m. Conditions will be cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 45 degrees. Later, a northwest wind will begin 9 to 14 mph, increasing to 16 to 21 mph in the afternoon.

Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

By Saturday, rain is expected mainly after 1 p.m. The high will be near 51 degrees, with a 100% chance of rain.

No high surf or ice warning have been issued for the Ocean City coast at the time of publication.

The national picture calls for lots of snow up north

An early forecast map from AccuWeather (below) that was published Wednesday morning shows that 1-3 inches of snow is likely to fall in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York City.

Boston could see 3-6 inches, AccuWeather said. Even higher amounts, from 6-12 inches, are forecast in the higher elevations well to the north and west of the big cities.
