Update: Cancellations reported as snow expected for Fayetteville; winter weather advisory issued

Update - 4:45 p.m.

The Fayetteville area isn't expected to see as much snow as other parts of the state — and far from the two feet of snow expected to blanket parts of the Northeast and New England — but there have been a number of cancellations and postponements as a result of the expected inclement weather.

All Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation activities, including games and practices, have been canceled and all facilities and gated parks will be closed Saturday.

All Cumberland County public libraries, solid waste landfills and animal services will be closed Saturday due to the weather, the county announced. The county's employee pharmacy will also be closed.

Moore County is also closing a number of county properties, including its libraries, on Saturday and is prepared to open a winter weather shelter, if needed.

Robeson Community College will also be closed Saturday due to the weather.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for much of North Carolina, including Cumberland County, with up to three inches of snow expected in parts of central North Carolina.

After being walloped by one of the heaviest snowfalls in years a week ago, it appears the Fayetteville area will miss the worst of this storm. While up to three inches of snow is forecast for much of the central part of the state, the National Weather Service in Raleigh said in its Friday morning briefing that the Fayetteville area is expected to be on the lower end of that forecast and should see snow totals closer to one inch by Saturday morning.

The winter weather advisory begins at 9 p.m. Friday and runs until 9 a.m. Saturday.

Even though the expected snowfall totals are relatively low, it'll certainly feel like winter in Fayetteville this weekend, thanks to gusty winds and cold temperatures that'll leave the entire state with wind chills in the teens — or single digits in spots — Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Temperatures are expected to dip into the high teens in Fayetteville on Saturday night, according to the weather service, with the wind bumping the wind chill down to about 12 degrees.

According to the NWS, wind gusts up to 30 mph are expected at times over the weekend in Fayetteville.

As cold as it'll be this weekend, the winter weather won't be around too long. Next week will be warm, with temperatures in the 50s on Monday and Tuesday and even the mid-to-high 60s on Wednesday and Thursday.
